The Depots

The ARRIVA-YORKSHIRE fleet comprises around 340 service buses and 3 training vehicles, operated from the five depots included in the tour.

The current fleet allocation list is shown on the Dewsbury Bus Museum website


A souvenir booklet will be on sale during the tour, and will give you a little more information about the depots and the company.

DEWSBURY (Cut End) was built in 1936, when Yorkshire Woollen occupied most of the north side of Mill Street East.. Yorkshire Woollen ran trams as early as 1903 from premises very close by.

60 buses are now based there.

HECKMONDWIKE (Beck Lane) dates from 1931 and is the only garage totally under cover. It also has a public highway running through the middle, between the two buildings.

64 buses are based there.

WAKEFIELD BUS STATION is built on the site of the Saville Street Depot, and opened for service in 2001.

WAKEFIELD (Belle Isle) is the site of Arriva-Yorkshire's Head Office, and was formerly the West Riding headquarters.

Now the largest depot, 111 buses are based there, along with the training fleet.

CASTLEFORD was built in 1906 as a tram depot, and parts of the original building still exist. Nowadays, 67 buses are based there.

SELBY DEPOT moved to its present location in 1998 and is the only depot in North Yorkshire.

39 buses are based there.
